Tonga’s Shirtless Oiled-Up Flag Bearer Steals The Show At Olympic Opening Ceremony

Tonga, the Polynesian sovereign state and archipelago comprising 169 islands, stole the show during the opening ceremonies for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro on Friday thanks to taekwondo fighter Pita Nikolas Taufatofua.

The internet couldn’t resist thirsting over Tonga’s Parade of Nations flag-bearer who came out bare-chested and dressed in nothing but a ta’ovala (Tongan mat) wrapped around his waist and covered with ample amounts of oil.

The 32-year-old is competing in taekwondo and is the first Tongan athlete to qualify for the sport.

Shortly before the ceremony, the Australian-born athlete took to Instagram where he hinted about “a little surprise” his fans could look forward to. “Don’t blink or you’ll miss it,” he wrote, including a wink.
