‘Drag Race’ judge Michelle Visage will star alongside All Stars 2 winner Alaska Thunderfuck in the tragic story about 90s porn superstar Joey Stefano.
The biopic will tell the story of Stefano’s discovery by drag superstar and porn director Chi Chi LaRue, his rise to fame as a model in Madonna’s Sex book, and the drug overdose that ultimately cut his life short in November 1994, reports Dazed.
Chad Darnell, who has previously worked on films like Miss Congeniality 2 and Magic Mike XXL, will direct the film.
Visage will play Anita, a TV host providing a through-line for the film. Alaska will play Gender, a make-up artist who played in the band Johnny Depp Clones with LaRue, according to Dazed.
Stefano, real name Nicholas Anthony Iacona, Jr., was set on a path of destruction after the traumatic loss of his father when he was just 15. He turned to drugs to numb his pain. His sister convinced her younger brother to get help at Mirmont Treatment Center in Delaware County, where he stayed for six months.
G Philly adds:
Stefano made his name as a hungry power bottom and appeared in such films as Hole in One and Sex in Wet Places, and even dated music magnate David Geffen. Madonna also took notice of the rising star, and cast him in her controversial Sex book and later appeared in her video for “Deeper & Deeper”.
Dazed adds:
Charles Isherwood penned a biography called Wonder Bread and Ecstasy: The Live and Death of Joey Stefano. The film will be based on the biography, and is set for release next year.
