Well, well, well. You may have guessed it, but now the numbers back up your suspicions: a significant amount of straight people in America have had gay sex.
According to an analysis the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently published, “among women and men who reported themselves as heterosexual or straight…12.6% of women and 2.8% of men” had “same-sex sexual contact”.
The report looked at the “sexual behavior, sexual attraction, and sexual orientation among women and men aged 18–44 in the United States”. This data was pulled from the 2011–2013 National Survey of Family Growth and looked at 9,175 individuals across the country.
The study found that “sexual attraction and sexual orientation correlate closely but not completely with reports of sexual behaviour”. Meaning that straight guy or girl who was all over you might really be straight.

Among those who identify as gay or bisexual, 89.7 percent of women and 67.9 percent of men have had “opposite-sex sexual contact”.
When taking all respondents into consideration (straight, gay and bisexual), three times as many women (17.4 percent) reported any same-sex contact in their lifetime compared with men (6.2 percent).
It’s also worth noting that 1.3 percent of women and 1.9 percent of men said they were “homosexual, gay, or lesbian”, 5.5 percent of women and 2 percent of men said they were bisexual and 0.9 percent of women and 1 percent of men said they “don’t know” or “refused” to answer.
